Mom's visit

My Mom just left for TN from her week-long visit to our home in Oregon. We mostly hung around the house and oohh'd and ahh'd over the baby. We snuck in a visit to Powell's City of Books where I picked up a few books on feeding babies.

Here's a quick poll: at what age did you start feeding your baby rice cereal and/or baby food?

Oh...and here's some baby pictures for you!

Cute pics!

We're starting at 6 months as recommended by pretty much everyone.

It sounds like you had a nice and relaxing visit. Sorry I missed your Mom. We stayed away because we were all sick last week. Everyone is better now though.

The AAP recommends 6 months as the starting age to start cereal and solids. We started on Ethan's six month bday exactly with rice cereal. You can add water, breastmilk, or formula to it. Ethan hated it, so we have been doing oatmeal ever since.

We then started with veggies twice a day. The recommendation is that you give the same food for three days to make sure there are no allergies, so that is six servings. After that we did fruit.

I was told that during the second 12 months of the baby's life, food should be about fun and experimentation. The majority of the calories should still be from milk.

Hope to visit with you soon.

Edit...I meant to say that during the second 6 (SIX)
months of babies life, the primary nutrition should be from milk.

I wouldn't start before six months and the longer the better if there is any history of food allergies. Kennedy NEVER ate cereal or baby food, she refused. She started eating real food when she could pick it up herself, way after she turned one.
