Three transitions

Transition #1 - new daytime routine
Kylie is enrolled in her first toddler swim class. And she's ready to move up to the next level in Gymboree. These are both really exciting developments with one big hitch--her new classes are at the 9:30 - 10:30 time frame. And this shakes up my entire day.

Our routine for the past 20 months has been to keep around the house in the mornings, start her nap around 10am and to go out for activities in the afternoon. Now we are going to have to flip-flop our day and move her naptime until later. I actually had to sit down with pencil and paper and talk out the new routine with Karen--"When will I feed Kylie?, When can I run? When will I shower? When will she nap?" and so forth.

And in talking out the creation of a new schedule, we decided to:

Transition #2--move Kylie to a toddler bed.
I'll spare you the long story about how her new routine is related to her new bed. Just trust me, it's connected. We had planned on waiting until Kylie was two years old to convert her crib to a toddler bed with guardrail. But now we plan to make the change this weekend. We've taught Kylie how to turn on and off a touch light so that she'll have more than just her night light if she gets up in the morning before I get to her. Next, we will introduce her to her new bed.

I feel the way that I always do with Kylie's transitions. Excited about these next steps, worried that I'm doing it too soon, nervous that it may be awful, and just a twinge sad about her taking another step away from babyhood. But mostly, I'm excited.

I pray that we have smooth sailing with this transition. It could be easy or complete chaos. Cross your fingers for easy!

LastlyTransition #3
I'm thrilled to see Obama's Inauguration. I'm making these cupcakes to celebrate. I wish you all could come over for a big morning "swearing in" party.

Here's two new pages.
I made Waking Up before I had decided about the crib. I feel nostalgic just seeing her peeking over her crib in these November pictures.

Good luck with the transition of the routine and the bed!

Would love to know how the transition goes. I think we're going to have a rougher time with it as it's a different bed completely and a different room. Riley loves the bed but doesn't get that it can be used for actual bed/nap time yet.

It shouldn't be too bad to move naptime as kids her age at daycare typically nap at noon.

Best of luck! I'm not ready to transition Chicka to a bed. Cripes. None of us would get any sleep. :) I'll look forward to hearing how it goes.

I have to admit, that I'm rather stunned that Kylie naps at 10am?? What time does she get up in the morning? Naptime around here has gotten later and later.

I moved my daughter Rowan to her toddler bed by the time she hit 18 months. It went very well. to be honest she was so used to the crib that I don't think she figured out she could climb out of bed for quite a few months hahaha.

Now she's almost three and we moved her to a twin bed quite a while ago... with bed rails of course. She loves it.

I do keep a gate up in her doorway because she likes to sneak out and come into my room and climb into my bed in the middle of the night haha... and its kind of freaky when all of a sudden you have a toddler staring you down at 2 am.

Have fun with it! Its a very big and exciting step!

We moved our daughter to a full-sized bed with two guard rails at 20 months and never had a problem. She loves her "big-girl bed." We have a gate on the outside of her bedroom door so she can't escape at night.

Also, my daughter stopped napping regulary at 19 months so if you can get Kylie to nap at anytime of the day you're doing better than me!

Good luck!

I wish you all the best of luck with your new transitions.

Thanks for the invite, as yummy as those cupcakes look, it may be a bit far to travel. Although I would give anything to be back away on holidays again especially in the America.

Oh man, you are brave! M&J are staying in a crib as long as humanly possible.
We're starting swim class next week too!! I'm so excited. We're doing it on Saturday morning so Chris can come with me.
Our routine is that we have to do all our activities in the morning. They sleep from 2-5. I don't plan on stopping that any time soon either :-)

I love reading about Kylie and her changes. I know you already know this, but all of this will just fly by and be a distant memory in such a short time-I'm glad you're cherishing it like you are.

I can barely remember my girls being this age, I know that Kennedy gave up naps at around age 1 and when Halsey was Kylies age I was ready to give birth to Kennedy!

Crazy.
