Hey -

These bento boxes look really cool but I have a question...when you put "wet" foods with "dry foods" (i.e. peaches with animal crackers or cold cuts with triscuits), do the dry foods get soggy at all?

Also, do the funky silicone muffin cups (is that what they are?) prevent spillage into the rest of the box? I would imagine that these lunch boxes would get tossed around a bit in backpacks.

Fabulous pics as always.

P.S. Just got back from a week in Cannon Beach...it was cold, windy, and misty (which I love) but your ocean pics wouldn't be nearly as colourful as they are now had you stayed in Oregon!

Hey Louise,

It's so good to see you in the comments! On the lunch with the peaches and animal crackers, the crackers stayed dry. The muffin cups (that is what they are; I got them from Michaels craft store) kept the peaches secure. On the lunch with the cold cuts and triscuits, the triscuits did take a bit of moisture in but were still crisp (just not extra crisp). I verified this because Kylie didn't eat all of them both times. The trick with the bentos is to fill them really full, that way the food isn't moving around so much.

For the most part, I try to keep the fruits all together in their own compartment. On the one with the oranges, some of the orange juice did leak out (even though I had drained them) of the bento box onto her Dora cloth lunchbox.

I carry Kylie's lunchbox into her classroom and hang it in her place. She gets it when it's time to eat. But it's not around in a backpack or anything. I imagine that if it had a lot of jostling around, it wouldn't stay so "pretty".

I really admire http://wendolonia.com/blog/. Her bento boxes are so awesome!

Thanks for being a long-time reader! Warmly, Wendy.

Thanks Wendy. I do an adult version of the bento box for myself when I go to school. I use the Sigg aluminum boxes (which are getting hard to find) because they seem to seal very securely and I feel safe putting them in to my school bag along with my MacBook. I mostly just put in packaged stuff like granola bars, fruit bars, yogurt drinks, etc. but your lunches look delicious.

I do think I need to branch out more but I really want to keep everything in the one box.

Thanks for your tips.

Again, I love these! I think I will do this for Lucas when he's old enough! It's so cute and you can tell there was so much thought and love put into each box!
