Bread!

Well, I've been testing my blood four times a day and monitoring my diet for 9 days now. And it's been enlightening.

Sweets, of course, are out the window. No cakes, cookies, chocolate, ice cream, etc. - even in moderation.
So are any kind of chips.
But I've also lost bread! I didn't realize how much I crave bread.

I've had three evenings where when I tested two hours after dinner, my glucose reading was 20 - 30 points above acceptable. And bread was to blame each time. So bread has been cut out of my diet. And I'm shocked at how much I miss it!

So these days, I'm practically living on power bars. My favorites are the Zone power bars and Balance power bars. And I've spent over $50 buying boxes of bars of every conceivable flavor (except the nasty fruit ones). I have a sinking suspicion that I'm going to be very, very tired of power bars before the first of May.

I have a new level of great admiration for diabetics.

In other news, we have our last Bradley childbirth class tomorrow night. I'm soooo glad that we signed up for an 8 week course instead of a 12 week course. I'm excited about tomorrow night's class because a doula we know will be bringing different kinds of baby slings for us to try.

But it's killing me that I'm going to miss the "live" version of Grey's Anatomy! We are going to DVR it so we can watch it when get home. Is anyone else freaking out that they might actually kill Meredith Grey? I'm convinced that they are going to "bring her back" but there's this small niggling doubt chewing away at my certainty. Makes me want to chew my nails (particuarly since I can't chew BREAD!!)

Damn the bread!!! How can something one loves so much be so bad for you. It's not right. You've got to try the Pria Bars. I buy mine in bulk at Costco. I love them!!! Better then Zone for me. They've got one that tastes just like Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies.

We are dying over Merideth!!! What the heck?! Can't WAIT until tomorrow!!!

You are doing so good.
I don't know if I could do it.
I think that I'd go insane without breads, pastas.
You are GREAT !!

Wow, I don't know how you're doing that diet! I think you are great for being so strong. I mean, I would miss so many of those things, especially bread! Keep up the good work--the pregnancy is almost over and then you can overdose on toast. :)

I am watching season 1 of "Grey's Anatomy" so I have a lot of catching up to do...

Enjoy your classes!

I hope you have a great time at your class. I don't know why, the baby sling is one of the things that I've been the most excited about!

I'm sorry you aren't able to have bread, I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. You really are being so strong!

I know what you mean about the bread. I can leave it; it's sweets to me, but my wife is addicted to bread. She would not survive! The things we do for our children, huh?

I changed my blog from TheCreationOfOurFamily to AsThePigFlies.

Hi Wendy and Karen,
Just wanted to say hi. I found your blog a week or two ago and have been so fascinated with your story. In my limited surfing time, I've managed to get caught up on your entire blog and archived posts. It was so fun starting back at the beginning and finding out that you got pregnant on the first try! YAY! My DP and I tried for the first time at home 3 weeks ago. It was a no go so we're on to try #2 next week using frozen donor sperm from NW Cryobank. I've been intrigued by your story for a number of reasons: 1. I'm from Tennessee myself (though not originally, but from the age of 12 and lived there for 15 years). I lived in Chattanooga...my brother graduated from UTK so I visited Knoxville often. 2. My DP and I have been wanting to relocate to Oregon for quite some time now so we're always envious of those who've made that leap already. It inspires us to just do it! Employment considerations have been the key factor in holding us back for now, but we've visited a couple of times now and we absolutely love the Portland area. We both feel that it's a much more progressive place to raise a child in an alternative family too. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to keeping up with your blog on a regular basis now. Your neighbors Heather and Jeff sound like wonderful friends (and I've even been reading their blog too). I'm so enjoying seeing all the beautiful things that you knit Wendy and it's made me want to learn. My mom has tried to teach me how to crochet in the past but I didn't enjoy it. She thinks that I'll like knitting much more so we're planning on having a one-on-one beginner's knitting class together soon. I also have to comment on how incredibly sweet the two of you are towards each other in your posts. In this world of sleazy reality and trash talk shows where the common theme is to see how much one can hurt or humiliate another, it's so refreshing to read sweet stories of a loving couple who speak fondly of one another. Just have to say though, there are two things that I am curious about after reading your story...what brought you to move from TN to OR? and how did ya'll meet? (that's if you care to share)
Anyhow, my "comment" has turned into a post in itself and I only meant to introduce myself. So, take care and Wendy, ignore the idiots who have no clue about tact...you are absolutely beautiful in your pregnant glory! Sorry you can't have bread...
